Every 15 Minutes 2015 – St. Charles and Westlake High Schools

The Waldorf Volunteer Fire Department presented the Every 15 Minute program to two high schools in the Waldorf area this year. Westlake High School and the newest school in the county, St. Charles High School.

The Every 15 Minute program demonstrates the dangers and consequences of driving while distracted. Students see their classmates taken out of class every 15 minutes, their faces painted with a death mask, to emphasize the statistic that someone in the US is killed by distracted or drunk driver about every 15 minutes.

This video was produced with the intention to let those involved in the staged incident, express what they felt and experienced during the exercise.

Attention Parents of Young Drivers:

Did you know car crashes are the leading cause of death among teenagers and young adults in the country? In fact, every 15 minutes, someone dies in a car crash somewhere in our nation. As you know, we care about our teen drivers here in Charles County. We are actively engaged in educating them about the dangers of impaired driving, as well as distracted driving and aggressive driving.

This video was recently filmed at two of our high schools (we try to bring the event to two high schools every year).

It’s a mock crash showing the impact of driving under the influence.

The video was produced by Brent Huber –who works for Charles County government – and the actors are local high school students. In their words, “This event made me think.” Since starting this program several years ago, fatalities involving teen drivers have decreased significantly in our county. We attribute much of this to educating our young adults about the dangers of driving while impaired, distracted driving and aggressive driving.
